Head Injury and Post-Concussion Rehabilitation

Head Injury and Post-Concussion Rehabilitation

Every year, over 165,000 Canadians suffer a brain injury 1 – a figure that would be much higher if we included all concussions and unreported injuries. With brain-related injuries, no two cases are the same and it is difficult to predict long-term outcomes. What we do know, however, is that early and intensive head injury rehabilitation can significantly aid recovery and improve the outlook for those impacted.

Hydrathletics is dedicated to helping you or your loved one along the path to recovery: regaining functionality, retraining the brain, and reintegrating into school, workplace, and community.

Head injuries are most often caused by car accidents, falls, physical violence, sports, or as a result of military service. Symptoms can range from headache, difficulty concentrating, and blurred vision to seizures, personality changes, memory impairments, and challenges with reasoning and logic. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a head injury or concussion (considered a mild form of traumatic brain injury), we can help.

Our Approach

Just as each individual is unique, so too is each injury. This is why our team of experts takes a customized approach to every client. Hydrathletics intensive head injury and post-concussion rehabilitation include:

● Identifying dysfunctions using internationally accepted assessment tools.

● Prescribing rehabilitation exercises that target specific needs in the following categories: visual, vestibular (related to the inner ear, can affect balance), cervical spine, and autonomic nervous system (regulates bodily functions such as heart rate, digestion, and respiratory rate).

● Utilizing hands-on techniques when required to help restore proper blood flow throughout the cranium. These techniques can also mobilize restricted segments of neural tissue, such as the Dura (tissue that surrounds the brain and spinal cord) and peripheral nerves.

Hydrathletics’ compassionate team promotes a gentle, progressive return to activity, school, and/or work. Our experts steadily increase exposure to previously aggravating activities and situations, providing the necessary structure and support for success. We also custom-design home-based programs that include exercises, stretches, and specific cognitive retraining
activities that are tailored to your unique needs.
