Return to Sport
Return to Sport
Due to high levels of physical activity, athletes face a higher risk of injury than the general population. To make matters worse, suffering from one athletic injury creates a higher risk for future ones. Recurrent injury rates range between 30-40 percent, and athletes between the ages of 13-25 are at highest risk. Injured athletes often do not return to the same level of performance they experienced prior to injury. That’s why our program is designed to physically and mentally prepare injured athletes to return to an equal or even greater level of performance while reducing the risk of re-injury.
Our Return to Sport program is divided into 4 phases:
- Phase 1: Basic movement skill assessment and development
- Phase 2: Advanced movement skill development
- Phase 3: Sport-specific athlete preparation
- Phase 4: Re-integration
During these phases, our therapists work patients through sport-specific movements within appropriate environments in both one-on-one and group settings. Open communication with coaches helps design the reintegration process to your sport while improving movement skills and performance. Finally, before re-integrating into sport, our therapists administer physical tests and psychological questionnaires to insure your readiness for return.
The Aquatic Edge
Our pools are an essential component of the Return to Sport program. The bulk of training is on land. However, there are two vital aspects of aquatic therapy that are essential to the program. First, the low-impact aquatic environment allows re-conditioning to begin earlier than usual. Decreased impact also allows for both high-intensity and low-intensity training. The second major benefit of aquatic therapy in sports rehabilitation is the incorporation of explosive movements. These exercises have been shown to increase speed, strength, and power while minimizing the impact forces on the site of injury.
Our Return to Sport program, like all of our services, revolves around a tailored, individual treatment plan that meets your specific needs and insures an optimal recovery for your specific case.
Why Aquatic Therapy?
Our aquatic therapy services provide an environment for controlled rehabilitation that occurs entirely under water. This means that patients enjoy the same results as land-based training in a low-impact setting that’s easy on the body.
